Our Design - What we do, and where we start!
1) First select the type of clock: wall mounted or free standing.
2) Select the wood that is required for the customer.
If it's a free standing clock it is usually worked on a lathe, but there are a few different options to chose from. Using a skeleton clock usually brass or silver finish and 3 different sizes, As for the wood 1 being a single piece of turned wood or a three piece which is the most popular with a base, inner and outter ring.
3) Then it's down to me to use my artistic skill, and the design usually comes to mind when working with different types of wood.
We always work to the brief set by the customer, unless it's left to us to decide on the design.
Wall mounted clocks are a little different, where you can chose what type of fingers and numerals you would like. The wood we use is the shape nature intended, usually abstract cross sections of a tree, if we like the shape and think we can fit a clock design onto it.
4) Design the clock into the wood chosen, sometimes which are drawn out by us.
5) Last and finally all clocks are finished with either bees wax or a high speed friction polish which will bring out the grain & patternation of the wood to its best possible look.
